If you’re sitting on Capital One miles, the next 28 days are the cheapest they’ll ever be to turn into a lie-flat seat to London or a business-class ride to Japan. On October 21, Capital One launched a 30% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Virgin Red. It runs through November 20 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Here’s what the bonus buys, the five sweet spots worth pricing tonight, and the traps that trip people up.

TL;DR

  • 30% bonus on Capital One miles transferred to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Virgin Red, October 21 through November 20, 2026.
  • The base ratio is 1:1. During the bonus, 1,000 miles become 1,300 Virgin Points. Minimum 1,000 miles, then in 100-mile increments. No registration, no cap, and transfers are usually instant.
  • This is a bonus on an existing partner, not a new partnership. Virgin has been a Capital One transfer partner since March 2022, and this is the fifth time the two have run this bonus. The bonus posts on Capital One’s side, so you see it before you confirm.
  • The one rule that matters: only move miles for a seat you have already priced. My transfer bonus tracker (milesbeyondborders.com/transfer-bonuses) has this bonus and every other live one in one place.

What the bonus buys

The math is the same on every award: divide the Virgin Points price by 1.3. That means every award costs about 23% fewer Capital One miles while the bonus runs. Here are the prices that matter.

Award (one-way)Virgin PointsWith bonusWithout bonus
Upper Class, NYC to London29,00022,40029,000
Delta hop under 500 miles7,5005,8007,500
LATAM business, JFK to Lima50,00038,50050,000
ANA business, West Coast to Japan52,50040,40052,500
ANA first class, Central/Eastern US to Japan85,00065,40085,000

Starting-at prices. Virgin’s own-metal awards price dynamically, so your dates may cost more. Capital One miles figures are the Virgin Points price divided by 1.3, rounded up to the nearest 100 (the minimum transfer that covers the award price).

The five sweet spots, briefly

1. Upper Class to London, from 29,000 points. Virgin prices its own-metal awards dynamically, but Northeast US to London or Manchester starts at 6,000 points in economy, 10,500 in premium economy, and 29,000 in Upper Class. With the bonus, that lie-flat seat costs 22,400 Capital One miles each way. The catch: Virgin now adds roughly $700 in taxes and fees to a one-way Upper Class ticket to Heathrow, per Thrifty Traveler. That is the price of the cheapest seat, not a promise.

2. Delta short hops, 7,500 points. Virgin’s distance-based chart for Delta flights (excluding US to UK/Europe) prices flights under 500 miles at 7,500 points, which becomes 5,800 Capital One miles during the bonus. Thrifty Traveler’s example: Fargo to Minneapolis costs roughly 20,000 SkyMiles through Delta, or 7,500 Virgin points. A point worth being honest about: Virgin’s 2023 repricing trimmed the longer Delta bands, per AwardWallet, but the sub-500-mile band survived.

3. LATAM business to Lima, 50,000 points. JFK to Lima in a lie-flat for 50,000 points becomes 38,500 Capital One miles with the bonus, with about $56 in taxes and fees in Thrifty Traveler’s example. Economy is 25,000 points, or 19,300 Capital One miles. Low fees, real business class, South America. This one gets overlooked.

4. ANA to Japan, the famous sweet spot. Virgin still prices ANA awards cheaper than any other program. West Coast to Japan: 52,500 in business (40,400 Capital One miles with the bonus), 72,500 in first (55,800). Central and Eastern US: 60,000 business (46,200), 85,000 first (65,400). From Hawaii: 37,500 business (28,900), 57,500 first (44,300). Two catches, and they’re real: you cannot book these online, you have to call Virgin Atlantic at 1-800-365-9500 after finding space on United’s site, and finding space is genuinely hard right now.

5. Virgin Voyages, the curveball. Transfer into Virgin Red instead of Flying Club and your points also book cruises. A five-night Miami to Bahamas sailing for two prices at around 295,000 points, which is 227,000 Capital One miles with the bonus. A 14-night transatlantic runs 720,000 points, or roughly 554,000 Capital One miles. The ships are adults-only, so it’s not my lane with two little kids, but the math is the math.

The worked example: two people to London

Here is what the bonus does for a couple flying Upper Class from New York to London, one-way, at the 29,000-point starting price:

ItemAmount
Virgin Points for two one-way Upper Class seats (2 x 29,000)58,000
Capital One miles needed at the normal 1:1 ratio58,000
Capital One miles with the 30% bonus (58,000 / 1.3, rounded up)44,700
Miles you keep in your pocket13,300
Taxes and fees (about $700 per person, one-way, per Thrifty Traveler)~$1,400
Net one-way for two44,700 miles + ~$1,400

How to do it in five steps

  1. Open a Virgin account first. Flying Club or Virgin Red, your choice. Points move between the two programs at no cost, so transfer into whichever one matches the booking you want.
  2. Find the seat before you move a single mile. Search the exact route and dates, and write down the exact Virgin Points price. Screenshots help.
  3. Check the ratio on the confirmation screen. In your Capital One account, start the transfer and look for the 1:1.3 on the transfer screen. The bonus shows before you commit, so there is no guesswork.
  4. Transfer only what the seat costs. The minimum is 1,000 miles, then in 100-mile increments, so you can match the price almost exactly.
  5. Book immediately after the points land. They usually arrive instantly, and award space does not wait.

The honest caveats

The London surcharge is real. Roughly $700 one-way in Upper Class right now, per Thrifty Traveler. Always compare the all-in cost against the cash fare before you get excited about the miles price. Points math against the real cash total, or it’s fantasy.

29,000 is the floor, not the promise. Virgin’s own-metal awards price dynamically. Your dates might price at 40,000 or 50,000, at which point the bonus still helps but the headline math is gone. Check the calendar, not the press release.

ANA space is the bottleneck. Calling Virgin’s 1-800 number only works if the seat exists, and partner space to Japan is scarce right now. Thrifty Traveler is blunt about it. Don’t move miles on the assumption that you’ll find space. One more restriction: Virgin can’t ticket ANA awards within 14 days of departure (business class especially), so this play only works for trips further out.

The Delta sweet spots are smaller than they used to be. Virgin’s 2023 repricing took a bite out of them, per AwardWallet. What’s left is the short-hop band, and that band is still good.

Don’t transfer on speculation. This is the fifth Capital One to Virgin bonus since 2022, per AwardWallet’s history, roughly one a year. Transfers are one-way. If you have no plan, wait for the next one. A bonus on banked miles is worth nothing.

My take

The bonus is genuinely good, and the math is simple: every Virgin award costs about 23% fewer Capital One miles for the next 28 days. But a discount on something you weren’t going to buy is still spending. The three moves that justify action: ANA business or first to Japan if you find space, a sub-500-mile Delta hop at 7,500 points, or LATAM business to Lima at 50,000. Everything else is a maybe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to register for the 30% bonus?

No. It’s a Capital One-side offer, so the 1:1.3 ratio shows in the transfer screen before you confirm. If you don’t see it, stop. Don’t transfer and hope.

Should I transfer to Virgin Red or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club?

Either. Points move between Virgin Red and Flying Club at no cost. Use Flying Club for award flights and Virgin Red for cruises, hotels, and lifestyle redemptions. Match the account to the booking you have planned.

When do the points arrive?

Usually instantly. Capital One transfers to Virgin are processed immediately in most cases, which matters when you’re holding a seat that could disappear.

I don’t have a trip planned. Should I move miles anyway?

No. Transfers are one-way, and Virgin’s own-metal prices are dynamic, so banked points can buy less later. This is the fifth bonus since 2022, running roughly once a year. Wait for a plan.

Can I really book ANA first class with Virgin points?

Yes, at 72,500 to 85,000 points one-way depending on where you fly from, which becomes 55,800 to 65,400 Capital One miles with the bonus. But you have to call Virgin Atlantic at 1-800-365-9500 to book, and partner award space to Japan is hard to find right now.

Bottom Line

Twenty-eight days, 23% fewer miles per award, and a short list of sweet spots that survive scrutiny. Price the seat tonight. If the number works, move exactly that many miles before November 20. If it doesn’t, wait for the next one. That’s the whole play.
