The Grand Hyatt Mumbai stands as a sprawling urban resort offering a blend of luxury accommodation, extensive dining options, and convenient access to Mumbai’s airport and the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). During a recent family trip to India, we had the opportunity to stay here for two nights, utilizing World of Hyatt points and leveraging my Globalist elite status benefits. Read on for a detailed review of our experience.
The Redemption
The Grand Hyatt Mumbai is a World of Hyatt Category 3 hotel. This places it in a sweet spot on the award chart, requiring:
- 9,000 points per night (Off-peak)
- 12,000 points per night (Standard)
- 15,000 points per night (Peak)
For our two-night stay, we needed two rooms – one for my wife, son, and me, and another for my father traveling with us. We booked during a period requiring the Standard rate of 12,000 points per room per night.
- Total Points Cost: 12,000 points/room/night * 2 rooms * 2 nights = 48,000 World of Hyatt points.
These points, easily transferred from partners like Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards, represented fantastic value compared to the cash rates at the time. Standard rooms were priced close to $240 USD per night (plus taxes) during our dates.
- Cash Cost Equivalent: ~$240/night * 2 rooms * 2 nights ≈ $960 USD
- Value Achieved: $960 / 48,000 points = 2.0 cents per point.
Getting 2 cents per point from Hyatt points is a solid redemption, making this booking an excellent use of points, especially considering we secured two rooms.

Check-in & Globalist Recognition
Upon arriving at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai, the check-in process was smooth and efficient. What stood out immediately was the level of personalized service. Rather than just pointing us towards the elevators, a staff member graciously escorted us directly to our room, taking the time to show us its features.
As a Hyatt Globalist member, the recognition was apparent and appreciated. Waiting in the room was a thoughtful welcome amenity consisting of a selection of complimentary snacks, perfect after traveling. There was also a personalized welcome note from the Hotel Manager, a nice touch that acknowledges elite status and makes you feel valued as a guest.
The Room: Globalist Upgrade to a Grand Suite
Thanks to my Globalist status, one of the highlights of the stay was receiving a complimentary upgrade from the standard room I had booked to a Grand Suite. This generous upgrade provided much-needed extra space for our family. Considering the nightly cash rate for this suite was around $400 USD during our stay, this upgrade represented significant additional value derived from Globalist status, making our 12,000 points-per-night redemption feel even more valuable.
The Grand Suite featured a comfortable king bed in the main bedroom area. Adjacent to this was a separate, small living area, furnished with seating that provided a distinct space for relaxing without being right on the bed – very useful with a young child. While not enormous, this separation was definitely welcome. Based on typical hotel layouts, these suites are often around 600 square feet, offering a noticeable increase over a standard room.
The bathroom was well-appointed, featuring both a deep soaking tub and a separate standing shower. It also included ample counter space and a dedicated closet area suitable for storing luggage, keeping the main living spaces uncluttered.
Overall, the suite was comfortable, clean, and the upgrade significantly enhanced our stay. My father stayed in the standard King room we had originally booked on points for him, which was also comfortable and well-appointed according to him.
Hotel Impressions: Ambiance & Service
The Grand Hyatt Mumbai lives up to its name – it’s an absolutely massive property with a sense of scale that feels truly five-star. From the moment you enter the expansive lobby, there’s an atmosphere of modern luxury. The grounds are extensive, incorporating hotel rooms, serviced apartments, multiple dining venues, and event spaces, creating a self-contained urban resort feel.
Beyond the physical space, the service truly stood out as phenomenal. The personalized escort to our room upon check-in set a high bar, and this attentive and proactive service seemed consistent throughout our interactions with staff, from the restaurants to the club lounge. It felt like genuine hospitality aimed at making the guest experience smooth and enjoyable.
Grand Club Lounge: A Globalist Highlight
Access to the Grand Club Lounge is one of the most valuable perks of Hyatt Globalist status, and the lounge at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai was exceptional – by far the best hotel lounge I have experienced to date.
The space itself was comfortable and well-appointed, providing a refined atmosphere for relaxing or working. What truly set it apart, however, was the evening spread. A highlight was the live counter where chefs were actively cooking delicious hot items like spicy chicken tikka and fish achari right before your eyes, adding a dynamic and aromatic element to the buffet.
Alongside these freshly cooked selections were a wide variety of high-quality appetizers and hors d’oeuvres, easily substantial enough for a light dinner. Complimentary cocktails, wine, beer, and other beverages were also readily available during the evening service hours. The quality, variety, and presentation of the food and drinks, combined with attentive service within the lounge, made it a true highlight of the stay and an outstanding Globalist benefit at this property.
One important note for families traveling with young children: access to the main lounge area was restricted for kids during the evening happy hour service. However, we appreciated that the staff proactively offered a great solution, allowing us to comfortably sit and enjoy the excellent food and drinks on the pleasant patio area located just outside the lounge. This accommodation ensured our family could still benefit from the evening offerings.
Breakfast Feast at Fifty Five East
Breakfast is often served in the hotel’s expansive all-day dining restaurant, Fifty Five East, and as Globalists, this was complimentary for us. We were particularly pleased and impressed that the hotel staff generously extended the complimentary breakfast benefit to our entire party, covering both our room (myself, wife, son) and my father’s room. This level of recognition truly enhances the Globalist experience.
The breakfast spread itself was absolutely massive and incredibly diverse – one of the most extensive hotel breakfasts I’ve encountered. It catered to a wide range of palates with numerous high-quality options:
- Indian Station: Featuring live counters preparing fresh dosa and parathas to order, alongside classics like idli, sambar, and various chutneys.
- Western Station: Offering made-to-order eggs, fluffy pancakes, French toast, sausages, bacon, pastries, cereals, fruits, yogurts, and more.
- East Asian Station: Providing a selection of popular breakfast items from the region.
- Other Delights: Including fresh juices, specialty coffees, and various breads.
The presence of several live cooking stations added to the vibrant atmosphere and freshness of the food. Honestly, the variety was so vast that even over our two-day stay, we felt like we barely scratched the surface of everything available. It was a definite highlight and a fantastic way to start the day.
Amenities: Pool, Spa & A Note on Kids’ Facilities
Beyond the room and dining, we explored some of the hotel’s leisure amenities.
- Pool: The hotel features a large outdoor swimming pool. During our visit, we found the water temperature to be slightly cold, but not prohibitively so. My two-year-old son and I still had a great time splashing around and enjoying the main pool area together.
- Spa: While I didn’t visit myself, my wife enjoyed a massage at the hotel’s spa and reported back very positively, particularly noting that the rates for treatments were very reasonable compared to typical luxury hotel spa pricing.
- Kids’ Facilities Observation: While the hotel has lovely expansive grounds and the main pool is welcoming to families, we didn’t notice a dedicated kids’ club or a significant outdoor playground area during our stay. For a hotel of this impressive size and standard, this felt like a potential omission for those specifically looking for extensive, dedicated child play zones beyond the pool.
The Bottom Line: Highly Recommended
Our two-night family stay at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai was, all in all, a fantastic experience, and it stands out as an excellent use of World of Hyatt points, especially for Globalist members.
It was great value for points, redeeming just 12,000 points per night for rooms that cost much more if paying cash. The Globalist recognition was truly exceptional, from the generous Grand Suite upgrade (valued at ~$400/night) to the thoughtful welcome amenities and, most notably, the hotel’s willingness to extend complimentary lounge access and the phenomenal breakfast feast to our entire party across two rooms.
The Grand Club lounge itself, with its live cooking counter and high-quality evening spread, was a definite highlight, as was the sheer variety and quality of the breakfast buffet at Fifty Five East. Throughout the stay, the service felt personalized and attentive. While the pool was enjoyable and the spa offered good value, the only minor point of feedback would be the apparent lack of a dedicated kids’ club or extensive playground, which might be a consideration for some families.
Despite that small observation, the overwhelming impression was highly positive. For its combination of great points value, luxurious ambiance, outstanding food and beverage offerings (especially for Globalists), and high service standards, the Grand Hyatt Mumbai exceeded expectations. I would definitely return and highly recommend it to others looking for a top-tier hotel experience in Mumbai, particularly if leveraging World of Hyatt points and elite status.
